Toddler-in-chief

Once again, I was at work while something monumental went on in the January 6 hearings. I got the gist of it on my radio on my way home: 45’s actions on 1/6 were those of an out of control tyrant. His niece, Mary,  has written a book about him that is an interesting study on his psychological twists. She called him “the most dangerous man in the world”, and I absolutely believe her. His capacity for cruelty is unmatched.

I heard snippets of the young woman’s testimony. Cassidy Hutchinson is 25 years old, but has the demeanor of an older, more experienced and mature person. I don’t think I could have withstood what she went through when I was only a quarter of a century old. I’m approaching three quarters of a century and I still don’t think I could do it! Anyway, I think about the courage it took for her to come forward and tell the smarmy details of the most powerful men in the world behaving badly.

She was calm and collected, but I could hear the pain in her voice sometimes. It must have been horrifying to be in her position on 1/6 and watch POTUS steaming in his own juices while his followers attacked the Capitol building. She had information about his behavior when his speech was over. He wanted to be driven to the Capitol so he could witness what he had plotted as part of his bid to become king. The Secret Service guys had their hands full with a big, raging guy who tried to take the wheel of the vehicle. Later the White House valet had to clean the ketchup off the walls in the dining room. Apparently 45 was prone to tantrums when he threw food and pulled the table cloth so that the table ware would crash to the floor. This man had the nuclear codes.

I pray for Cassidy. I think her career as a Republican might be in grave danger, unless she wants to join those Republicans who still recognize reality and are brave enough to say so. I don’t know how many of those people are left. I also think she will be subjected to a barrage of threatening messages simply because she spoke the truth about 45 and his madness. Perhaps her career in politics, at least in Washington, might be over as well.

No matter what, she is a patriot. The dictionary says that she is “a person who loves, supports and defends her country and its interests with devotion.” Apparently she tried to instill some of those qualities in her boss, Mark Meadows. He knew exactly what was happening and, like a startled turtle, he drew back into his shell and hid and did nothing. He hid as the most powerful man in the world threw a toddler tantrum by tossing his burger and fries against the wall. Honest to God, how can people believe in this crazed individual and want him to have any kind of power at all?

Cassidy Hutchinson, you are a hero. I hope you don’t pay too steep a price for this. I hope you are able to continue working in politics and representing the Republican party as it used to be. You and Liz Cheney deserve a medal for your ethics and your courage.
